As a journalist, his work focuses on the intersection of culture and politics. During his four-year tenure at the South China Morning Post, he published extensively on diplomacy, culture, and music. He interviewed experts, politicians, and prominent figures, and attended major events such as China’s annual plenary sessions.

His most-read publications include deep dives into the soft-power potential of China’s recent cultural productions, the sociopolitical landscape for Chinese gay youth, and the “race traitor” debate concerning Chinese diasporic comedians. In 2024, he published an exclusive story on the Palestinian Civil Defence’s visit to China for urban search and rescue training.

He was the primary writer for the Post Magazine’s music section, producing features on trendsetters such as Grammy-winning producer Khris Riddick-Tynes and Billboard chart-topping songwriter Chris James.

He has also published opinion pieces, addressing topics such as Hong Kong’s colonial nostalgia and Western misconceptions of China’s LGBTQ community. He was a featured speaker at the Asia News Network’s panel, "The Future of Hong Kong."

As a freelancer, he has written for publications including Cathay Pacific’s inflight magazine, producing content such as city guides and listicles.

He is now the international publicist for pioneering Chinese R&B diva Tia Ray, where he is responsible for expanding her global presence and exposure. In addition to rapidly growing her social media channels, he has facilitated strategic international collaborations and provided comprehensive support for major events like SXSW and the Once Upon a Moon concert tour.

Concurrently, as A&R for Malaysian singer-songwriter Nigel Tay, Cyril guided the successful release of his debut album, "Créma." He also strategised its unique three-installment rollout and organized high-profile showcases.

Cyril holds a sociology degree from the University of Bristol, where his first-class thesis analyzed Hong Kong youth through the frameworks of racism, xenophobia, and colonialism.

Cyril is a publicist, journalist and brand strategist who brings a unique perspective to understanding cultural landscapes and shaping public narratives.
